How to Get Involved
Volunteer
To get involved today, consider your volunteer goals and available time. Camp Fire USA is looking for committed individuals and groups to help us spark the light in every child we serve. Whether you are looking to work directly with the youth that we serve or prefer to stay behind the scenes, Camp Fire has an opportunity for you. Contact Nick Brotzel for more information on volunteer opportunities at Camp Fire!
Congratulations to the University of Nebraska at Omaha chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity for receiving the “Making it Happen” award at the 2008 United Way of the Midlands Outstanding Volunteer Awards luncheon last month. Pi Kappa Alpha was selected from among dozens of nominees across the metro area for their commitment to Camp Fire’s youth education program and the kids we serve. Camp Fire salutes Pi Kappa Alpha for their dedication to Omaha’s young people.
Volunteer of the Month
March - Byron Dacy
For the past year, Byron has volunteered at Camp Fire’s Jackson Elementary After School program. A junior at Creighton University and a member of the University soccer team, Byron brings a passion for education and athletics to the kids we serve. Byron plans to spend his summer helping Camp Fire. Upon completion of his studies, he plans to continue serving youth through a career in elementary education. Congratulations Byron and thank you for all you do for Camp Fire!
April - Carol Balus
Although relatively new to the Camp Fire family, having first volunteered to assist Camp Fire at the 2008 Designer Showhouse, Carola has already made many valuable contributions. During the course of Camp Fire’s partnership with the Designer Showhouse, Carol not only volunteered multiple times to provide home tours, she also spent hours on the phone recruiting her friends and neighbors to the cause. Thanks in large part to Carol’s efforts, Camp Fire was successful in providing more than 300 volunteer hours to the Showhouse, making our week as a beneficiary a resounding success! Congratulations Carol and thanks for helping Camp Fire spark the light in every child we serve!
May - Angel Ventura
Angel has been a staple at Camp Fire’s Castelar Elementary program since he began volunteering in January. A student at Bryan High School, Angel takes time from his studies to volunteer at Camp Fire three to four times a week. While most high school students view the summer months as a time for rest and relaxation, Angel plans to spend his summer days mentoring Camp Fire kids. Camp Fire staff members say that “Angel is a very caring volunteer. He takes the time to look out for the kids and he is a constant presence in their lives.” Congratulations Angel and thank you for helping Camp Fire build caring confident youth and future leaders!
